TEXAS — Colin Allred has defeated Julie Johnson in the Democratic primary runoff for Texas’ 33rd Congressional District.
Allred will now face the winner of the Republican primary runoff, Patrick Gillespie, in the November general election. The district was redrawn after the Republican-led Texas Legislature approved new congressional maps for the state in an effort to keep the GOP majority in the U.S. House.
The new 33rd District includes parts of downtown Dallas and some area suburbs, and it heavily favors Democrats.
Johnson, who currently represents the 32nd Congressional District in the House, launched her bid to represent the neighboring 33rd District after her current district was redrawn to be more favorable to Republicans.
