MAGA miles: Babin proposes I-47 from Port Arthur to Montana in honor of President Trump
WASHINGTON — A nearly 1,800-mile interstate honoring President Trump would begin in Port Arthur under legislation U.S. Rep. Brian Babin announced Thursday.
The I-47 Future Interstate Act of 2026 would designate the existing U.S. 287 corridor as future Interstate 47 and add it to the federal list of High-Priority Corridors.
Babin says the proposed number honors President Trump, the nation’s 47th president.
The route would begin at State Highway 87 in Port Arthur and follow U.S. 287 through Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana before ending at U.S. 89 in Choteau, Montana, roughly 100 miles south of the Canadian border.
In Southeast Texas, U.S. 287 shares the roadway with U.S. 69 and U.S. 96 from Port Arthur through Beaumont. U.S. 96 separates from the corridor near Lumberton, while U.S. 69 and U.S. 287 remain together until Woodville.
The route continues through East Texas, Palestine, Corsicana, the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Wichita Falls and Amarillo before leaving Texas.
