Jon Bonck declares victory after early voting in GOP runoff for 38th Congressional District
Bonck and Shelly deZevallos were vying to succeed U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt in a GOP stronghold that stretches across west and northwest Harris County.
Jon Bonck declared victory against Shelly deZevallos in the Republican primary runoff for Texas’ 38th Congressional District after early voting results were released Tuesday night.
According to complete results released by the Harris County Clerk’s Office, Bonck received 64.75% of the vote, while deZevallos received 35.25%.
Bonck, who had endorsements from President Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz, could have been considered the favorite in the race after receiving about 47% of the vote during the first round of voting in early March, when he led a 10-candidate field.
Bonck now advances to November’s general election to face Democrat Melissa McDonough and Green Party candidate Alex McMenemy. McDonough won the Democratic nomination outright in March, receiving 51.6% of the vote in a three-candidate race that also included Marvalette Hunter an…
