Housing leaders discuss affordable housing solutions in Newport News as Road to Housing Act advances
Just hours after President Donald Trump announced he would not sign the Road to Housing Act, Rep. Bobby Scott (D, VA-03) convened local housing leaders in Newport News to discuss strategies for expanding affordable housing and addressing housing challenges across Hampton Roads.
Although Trump declined to sign the legislation, the Road to Housing Act is set to become law.
Scott's roundtable followed a tour of affordable housing construction sites with Habitat for Humanity. The discussion brought together local officials and housing advocates to identify practical solutions for increasing housing opportunities in the region.
"You can spend all day talking about the problem and get nothing done, but today we are talking about solutions," Scott said.
Scott said the president's decision not to sign the bill would not prevent it from becoming law.
"That's the main thing, and the fact that he won't sign it because of a voter suppression bill is between him and the Republicans," Scott said.
