Analyst says turnout could shape key Virginia races as candidates turn to November

Va. (WSET) — With Virginia's primary elections over and the November ballot set, candidates across the Commonwealth are shifting their focus to the general election.

ABC 13 political analyst Dr. David Richards says voter turnout will be one of the biggest factors in determining who wins this fall, especially in districts where one party already holds a clear advantage.

In Virginia's 6th Congressional District, Republican Rep. Ben Cline will face Democrat Beth Macy after both advanced without opposition in their party primaries.

According to the Virginia Public Access Project, Macy has raised about $1.6 million for her campaign, compared with roughly $1.4 million for Cline.

Despite Macy's fundraising edge, Richards says the district's Republican voting history makes the race an uphill battle for Democrats.
