Roanoke-based author and journalist Beth Macy didn’t intend to run for political office. What got her into the race to challenge 6th District Republican incumbent Ben Cline, R-Botetourt, was, in part, frustration with what she viewed as Cline’s lack of availability.
Along with other like-minded individuals who were frustrated with the state of the nation, Macy started attending rallies outside of Cline’s office early last year. Cline was not present at any of those rallies.
