Former Virginia first lady running for Congress in anticipated 7th district
Former Virginia first lady Dorothy McAuliffe announced a run for Congress in Virginia's newly drawn 7th District.
The proposed 7th Congressional District would divide Republican voters to be more favorable for Democrats, if approved by voters on April 21. The previous Congressional map was drawn by the Virginia Supreme Court.
"After years in and around public service - including as Virginia’s First Lady leading the No Kid Hungry Virginia campaign that delivered millions of school breakfasts, and as a U.S. State Department official advancing global partnerships - and after watching the challenges our communities face grow more urgent by the day, I knew it was time to step up," wrote McAuliffe in a statement.

Dorothy McAuliffe is married to Terry McAuliffe, who was the Governor of Virginia from 2014 to 2018.
Dorothy McAuliffe was part of the U.S. Department of State's Special Representative for Global Partnerships.
Some of her campaign promises posted on her X page include "holding Trump and ICE accountable," reversing SNAP cuts "to our most vulnerable."
Dorothy McAuliffe joined other candidates seeking to represent the area.
Del. Dan Helmer, a military veteran and business owner, said he is running to defend democracy and "hold Trump accountable," according to his website.
Former Federal prosecutor J.P. Cooney, a lifelong Arlington resident, is also running. Cooney helped prosecute President Donald Trump as a deputy to Special Counsel Jack Smith.
