Berman wins Democratic primary for Wisconsin's 1st Congressional District

JANESVILLE — Mitchell Berman won the Democratic primary for Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District Tuesday night. He will now face off against incumbent Republican Congressman Bryan Steil in the general election Nov. 3.

At 9:02 p.m. with over half the votes counted, The Associated Press called the primary race for the District 1 election.

At 9:24 he had 4,725 votes from Rock County (where the Cities of Janesville and Beloit and points east are part of the District), when all precincts besides those in the City of Janesville had been counted. According to the AP, he had won 10,739 votes throughout the district, which also includes most of Walworth County, all of Kenosha and Racine Counties, and the southern portion of Milwaukee County.

Berman is an emergency room nurse who lives in rural Racine County with his wife and two daughters. He has campaigned on a message of bringing down the cost of living, fixing a broken healthcare system and ending corruption in Washington.
