Derrick Van Orden to face Rebecca Cooke again in November election

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - WEAU caught up with Congressman Derrick Van Orden, who will be facing Rebecca Cooke in the November election, after she won the Democratic Primary for Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District on Tuesday night.

Before the race was called, we asked him what his reaction was if Cooke won.

“Rebecca Cook and Francesca Hong are the same person. They are. They have the same radical left-wing policies. So, they want to defund the police. They want to get rid of ICE. They want open borders. They want free healthcare for illegal aliens. They want to confiscate your ARs, which is the most popular weapon in the United States of America. So, they have the same radical left-wing Democrat socialist agenda. And, you know, it would be a shame if Rebecca Cook won because of that,” said Van Orden.

Van Orden was elected to the House of Representatives in 2022.

When asked why voters should send him back to Washington D.C. over a democratic nominee, he cited his accomplishments while in office.

“I want them to take the time to look at my record and understand that I’ve been working tirelessly for people here in the third Congressional District. Saving the VA home loan guarantee program with the partial claims bill. Making sure that we have a billion dollars additional every year for Badger Care. Those are not partisan issues,” said Van Orden.

Van Orden added he will work tirelessly for people in the 3rd Congressional District whether they voted for him or not.

The general election will be on Nov. 3, 2026.
