Cooke campaigns in Stevens Point, outlines priorities for third House run

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) — The Democratic candidate for Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District campaigned in Stevens Point, telling Portage County Democrats she has several priorities for the race.

Rebecca Cooke has run for the Third Congressional seat twice before. In 2024, the Eau Claire native narrowly lost to Derrick Van Orden. In 2022, she lost in the primary.

Cooke said health care is a top concern for voters in the district, citing bills passed by Republicans in Congress. She said she supports creating a public option that would let people keep private insurance if they choose, and wants to expand Medicare to cover vision, dental and hearing. Cooke said if elected, one of her first priorities would be extending the ACA tax credit premium for three more years, which she said Congress failed to do. She said premiums have risen from $400 to $1,800 a month.
