Wisconsin — 3rd District

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - We are just a week out from election day.

One of the top races we’re watching is the Democratic Primary for Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District. Both candidates, Rebecca Cooke and Emily Berge, are sharing their final message to voters.

“I’ve been building the trust of voters across this district for a number of years, and I think that the proof is in the pudding on that. Last cycle, I outperformed every Democrat on the ticket, including Harris by 9,000 votes, and our own Senator Tammy Baldwin by 5,000 votes, because we really do the work of showing up in rural communities and smaller towns that I think have historically been written off by Democrats in the past,” said Cooke.

This is Cooke’s third time running for congress. Campaign finance reports show she has raised more than $8.6 million.

Meanwhile, her opponent, Emily Berge, has raised about $728,000. But Berge says that’s why she chose to run for congress.

“That’s how I knew that this problem is bigger than Derrick Van Orden. It’s bigger than, you know, our leadership, President Trump. Like, it’s a problem with our country where we have party insiders picking which candidates they want to go forth. And so, this campaign is about the people. That’s why I’m running is because of the people. To give the people of the third congressional district a voice,” said Berge.

Whoever wins on Tuesday will face Republican Congressman Derrick Van Orden in November.

According to campaign finance reports, Van Orden has raised more than $7.5 million.
