Michael Alfonso wins Republican nomination for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District
SUPERIOR, Wis. (Northern News Now) - Michael Alfonso has won the Republican primary in Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District, advancing to the November general election ballot.
Michael Alfonso defeated four other candidates in the primary, winning with 48.1% of the vote.
The seat became open after Rep. Tom Tiffany left to run for governor, leaving the Northwoods without representation in Washington.
Five Republicans competed in the primary for the 7th District seat.
Michael Alfonso, who works in the construction industry, was endorsed by President Trump and is married to former Rep. Sean Duffy’s daughter. Some Republicans viewed Alfonso as the front-runner heading into primary night.
