Wausau businessman enters 7th Congressional District race

WEAU · February 18, 2026

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - Wausau businessman and former Marathon County GOP Chairman Kevin Hermening has entered the race for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District.

Hermening officially kicked off his campaign at an event Wednesday morning, joining a crowded Republican primary.

Hermening is a certified financial advisor and owner of Hermening Financial. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a Marine security guard at the U.S. Embassy in Iran. He was one of 52 Americans taken hostage in November 1979.

Hermening has served multiple times on the Mosinee School Board. He has also been actively involved in the Republican Party of Marathon County, serving as chairman for 20 years.

Republicans Michael Alfonso, Jessi Ebben, Niina Baum and Paul Wassgren are also running in the Republican primary for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District.

Chris Armstrong, Fred Clark, and Ginger Murray round out the Democratic primary.
