Lawmakers push $250 million for clean water projects in West Virginia

West Virginia is statistically ranked last in the nation for drinking water quality, and has the highest percentage of health-based Safe Drinking Water Act violations.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — West Virginia is statistically ranked last in the nation for drinking water quality, and has the highest percentage of health-based Safe Drinking Water Act violations.

But, at the federal level, steps are being taken to undo these statistics.

Appearing before the House Appropriations Committee, Congressman Riley Moore introduced what he hopes could bring relief to those without clean drinking water in the state - an amendment aimed at directing resources to areas in need.

It encourages the Army Corps of Engineers to offer technical advice and expertise to struggling districts. While the amendment successfully garnered backing, there was no specific budget amount attached.
