Mississippi's GOP governor drops election pledge in huge setback for Trump’s midterm plan

Red state court may have just thrown a wrench in Trump's gerrymandering scheme: analysis

Missouri's Supreme Court may have just thrown a wrench into President Donald Trump's gerrymandering scheme, according to a new analysis. On Tuesday, the court upheld the GOP's new map, which gives the party a 7-1 seat advantage over Democrats in the House of Representatives and could lead to the ouster of Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO), who represents Kansas City. However, the court tucked a little-noticed line in its ruling that Democrats could use to fight back against the map after the November election, according to a new analysis by The Kansas City Star. Republicans Panic Over GOP Congressman’s Mysterious Absence

House GOP leaders are increasingly unnerved by Rep. Tom Kean’s vanishing act. The New Jersey Republican hasn’t shown up for work in more than two months, and his team has declined to brief party leaders privately on what’s keeping him sidelined. House Speaker Mike Johnson and the rest of his top brass have been kept in the dark for a stretch of roughly 70 days, Punchbowl News reports . The 57-year-old congressman’s office has, on the record, cited an unspecified medical issue and pledged a swift return. “My doctors continue to assure me that my recovery will be complete and that I will be back to the job I love very soon,” Kean said in an April 28 statement. Trump gets shot across the bow as 3 frustrated Republicans defect to help Dems

New signs of strain were bubbling up among Republicans on Wednesday after three GOP lawmakers sided with Democrats on a vote to end the Iran war, Politico reported. The war has grown more unpopular among Americans as gas prices soar and Republicans consider the economic fallout ahead of the midterm elections, according to Politico. The 49-50 vote on Wednesday was the closest the Senate has come to having a war powers vote as the Trump administration has missed the legal deadline to tamp down its military operation, "which several Republicans have signaled would be a turning point for their sup...

Cognetti outraises all Pennsylvania congressional candidates in April

(The Center Square) – No congressional candidate in Pennsylvania raised more than Democrat Paige Cognetti’s campaign in April, according to campaign finance reports released last week. Cognetti, the mayor of Scranton who is running for the Democratic Party nod for the 8th Congressional District, raised just under $495,000 from the beginning of the month through April 29. U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan, the GOP freshman lawmaker who she is attempting to unseat, raised just under $315,000 during that same time period. The race for the 8th Congressional District is shaping up to be an expensive one. Since launching her candidacy in early September, Cognetti’s campaign has raised $3.1 million. Bresnahan, who was elected to the U.S. House in 2024 after defeating incumbent Democratic Congressman Matt Cartwright, has raised $4.61 million to date in the election cycle. However, Cognetti has outpaced Bresnahan in the first four months of the year. Cognetti’s campaign has raised $1.95 million from the beginning of January through April 29, while Bresnahan’s campaign has brought in $1.52 million. The only congressional candidate in Pennsylvania who has raised more than Cognetti so far in 2026 is fellow Democrat Janelle Stelson, a former television anchor running for her party’s nomination
