Sen. Roger Marshall is selling his Florida vacation home, which he says was destroyed by a hurricane two years ago.

The Florida property has been a point of criticism from political opponents during his Kansas reelection campaign.

The Sarasota home is listed for sale with an opportunity to finish the rebuild on the waterfront property.

Marshall has criticized his Democratic opponent, Adam Hamilton, for owning multiple homes.

Amid his Kansas reelection campaign, U.S. Sen. Roger Marshall is selling his vacation house in Florida two years after a hurricane.

"I only wish I had a home in Florida," Marshall, a Republican, told reporters in Topeka on Aug. 10. "Our home in Florida was destroyed by a hurricane almost two years ago.

"We do have grandchildren there. My wife wanted a second place, to go visit. I didn't ever get there very often. You should come visit my home in rural St. John. We've had this particular home since 1999. It's where I love to go. I only wish I could get there more often."

On election ballots this year, Marshall's home city is listed as St. John. His voter registration also uses a St. John address. When he ran in 2020, Marshall's home city on the ballot was Great Bend, where he was a physician.

The Sarasota house, purchased in June 2019, was listed as a "vacation home" in Marshall's financial disclosures. In fall 2024, Sarasota was affected by Hurricane Helene in September. About two weeks later, in October, Hurricane Milton hit Sarasota.

The Florida vacation home has been a frequent criticism since reporting in 2024 by Politico and the Star. Democrats often tie it to a lack of public town hall meetings since Marshall left one in Oakley last year.

"I've had this asked many times, how could a senator who when he's not in Washington, D.C., is in Florida know what people need in Kansas?" said Adam Hamilton in his election night victory speech.

Hamilton, a Kansas City-area pastor, won the Democratic primary election on Aug. 4.

"He ducked out of town halls and decided not to have them anymore," Hamilton said. "So here's what I think. If Sen. Marshall wants to spend more time in Florida, I think that's awesome, and I think that we should help him be able to do that by electing me."

Former Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, when campaigning for Hamilton in Topeka, said, "We have a shot of sending Roger Marshall to Florida full-time for the rest of whatever, and having somebody represent us in Washington who listens to Kansans, who lives in Kansas, who wants to support us in Kansas, and who shares our values and our vision."

Prairie Progress Civic Action attempted to mail Kansas greeting postcards to Marshall's vacation house, but they were sent back, marked "return to sender." That appears to have happened after the Florida house was listed for sale.

The three-bed, two-bath home in Sarasota was listed on March 30, according to the listing agent's website. The listing price is $1.45 million.

"An exceptional opportunity awaits to create your dream waterfront retreat in one of Sarasota's most desirable locations," states the property description on the website. "This unique property offers the rare chance to either complete the existing structure to your exact specifications or design and build a custom home tailored to your vision."

Images of the property show several interior rooms that need work done.

"Whether you envision a modern coastal masterpiece or a timeless waterfront estate, this is a rare chance to bring your vision to life in an unbeatable location with outstanding boating access and exceptional privacy," the listing states.

Sarasota County property appraiser records show it is owned by a trust with a Great Bend address.

The property has a just value of about $921,000. The land value is about $799,000 while the building value is about $111,000 and a boat dock adds about $11,000 in value.

That's down from 2024, when the property's just value was about $1.3 million before the hurricanes. Property records indicate both the land and building values were damaged significantly by the storms.

Even after the hurricanes, Marshall's campaign had a fundraiser retreat at a Sarasota resort in 2025, according to a document published by Politico.

Speaking to reporters in Topeka, Marshall said, "I do hope the press takes a moment to ask Adam Hamilton about the four homes that he owns — one of them on Lake of the Ozarks."

That home is in Camden County, Missouri, property records show.

Hamilton's residence is in Stilwell, Kansas.

Candidate financial disclosures show Hamilton also owns a home in Kansas City, Missouri. The disclosure indicates it is a rental. It's being rented to Hamilton's daughter, a campaign spokesperson said.

Before running, he also owned a home in Olathe, but that was sold in September 2025. Hamilton also purchased a home in Lawrence in May 2025. The Olathe home is where Hamilton's mother previously lived, and the Lawrence house is used by Hamilton's other daughter, the spokesperson said.

Hamilton's campaign responded by pointing to Marshall's Senate office previously using taxpayer money to pay for trips to Florida, which was the issue initially raised in the first report by Politico that publicized the vacation home.

Reports between 2021 and 2024 filed with the secretary of the Senate show the senator and at least one of his staff charged taxpayers for transportation, per diem and incidentals on trips to Sarasota and elsewhere in Florida.

"Roger Marshall had Kansas taxpayers pay nearly $20,000 to ferry him back and forth to his so-called 'vacation home,' only stopping after he was caught," said Tyson Brody, the Hamilton campaign spokesperson, in a statement. "He still spends as much time as he can in his home state of Florida, but thankfully now only his donors are footing the bill."
