Rep. Sheri Biggs, R-S.C., told Newsmax on Monday that Americans elected President Donald Trump to make tough decisions on behalf of the nation, including navigating the increasingly complex situation with Iran and said the public should trust his leadership.

During an appearance on Newsmax's "National Report," Biggs praised Trump's handling of the crisis and backed his recent social media message urging Americans to remain patient as diplomacy unfolds.

"The American people elected President Trump for a reason," she said. "It's because he has the backbone, he has the intelligence, to get things done."

Biggs, a member of both the House Homeland Security and House Foreign Affairs committees, said Trump is carefully managing a situation that many Americans may not fully understand.

"Iran is so complex, and I think that's what the average individual does not realize," she said. "President Trump is maneuvering this. He's handling this so carefully because he wants to make good decisions."

The South Carolina Republican said Trump has access to information that goes far beyond what is available through media reports, making it important for Americans to have confidence in his judgment.

"I feel like he has a lot more information than you see on the news media," Biggs said. "And I think we have to trust him."

She also voiced support for Trump's recent social media post calling for faith in his administration as it continues to address tensions involving Tehran.

"I agree with his tweet," Biggs said. "We need to sit back and relax and just continue to pray and have the backs of our servicemen and women. That's the most important thing."

Asked about comments from Iran's foreign minister regarding ceasefire agreements, the congresswoman said Tehran has a long history of saying one thing while doing another.

"I think the terrorists of Iran manipulate things, and they try to twist the truth, to put it mildly, and they can't be trusted," she said.

That reality, Biggs argued, is what makes negotiations with Iran so difficult and why Trump's leadership is essential.

"I think President Trump is putting America first. He's trying to protect the citizens," she said. "Again, we just have to trust him and follow his lead."

Biggs also blasted critics of Trump's Iran policy, accusing them of applying a double standard when it comes to Republican and Democrat presidents handling foreign threats.

"The hypocrisy is overwhelming," she said. "It's OK for a Democrat president to try to address the issues in Iran, but it's not OK for President Trump."
