James Martin to take on Brian Mast after wining Democratic primary for Florida's 21st Congressional District
U.S. Coast Guard veteran James Martin has secured the Democratic nomination for Florida's 21st Congressional District after a razor-close primary victory over challenger Bernard Taylor.
Martin captured 50.4% of the vote compared to Taylor's 49.6%, according to election results from NBC News Friday afternoon.
The narrow margin underscores the competitive nature of the Democratic race in a district that includes St. Lucie County, Martin County and portions of northern Palm Beach County. Martin will now face incumbent Republican Rep. Brian Mast in November's general election.
Taylor conceded the race Thursday night on social media, acknowledging the outcome while emphasizing the importance of democratic processes.
