Illegal immigrant killed by ICE agent in Houston was not intended target, lawmaker says

HOUSTON (TNND) — The illegal immigrant fatally shot by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent during an operation in Houston was not the intended target, Rep. Sylvia Garcia said Friday after speaking with acting ICE Director David Venturella.
Speaking at a news conference, Garcia said Venturella told her ICE agents had administrative warrants for other individuals and that Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and his brother were not the subjects of the operation. She also said Venturella acknowledged the agents involved were not wearing body cameras or dashboard cameras during the encounter.
"This should not have happened," Garcia said. "Lorenzo was not the target."
Calling for an independent investigation, Garcia said the lack of body camera footage and unanswered questions surrounding the shooting have left Salgado Araujo's family searching for answers.
